چکیده

Clinically relevant cardiovascular parameters, such as pulmonary blood volume (PBV) and ejection fraction (EF), can be assessed through indicator dilution techniques. Among these techniques, which are typically invasive due to the need for central catheterization, contrast ultrasonography provides a new emerging minimally invasive option. PBV and EF are then measured by a dilution system identification algorithm after detection of multiple dilution curves by an ultrasound scanner. In this paper, dilution systems are represented by parametric models. Since the measured indicator dilution curves (IDCs) are corrupted by measurement artifacts and outliers, the use of conventional least square error (LSE) estimator for estimating system parameters is not optimal. Different estimators are therefore proposed for estimating the system parameters. Comparison of these estimators with the LSE estimator in assessing EF and PBV is performed on simulated, in vitro and patient data. The results show that the proposed total least absolute deviation estimator (TLAD) outperforms other estimators. The measured IDCs are highly corrupted by noise, which affect the estimation of EF and PBV. Therefore, a two stage denoising method capable of removing outliers is also proposed for removing noise in IDCs. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Right ventricular Hemodynamic Alteration after Pulmonary Valve Replacement in Children with Congenital Heart Disease

Introduction:  In patients who underwent surgery to repair Tetralogy of Fallot, right ventricular dilation from pulmonary regurgitation may be result in right ventricular failure, arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Hence, pulmonary valve replacement may be necessary to reduce right ventricular volume overload. The aim of present study was to assess the effects of pulmonary valve replacement on rig...

Estimation of Ejection Fraction with Echocardiographic and Cardioangiographic Methods in 50 Cardiac Patients

Ejection fraction is the most important indicator of heart failure. Angiography , is a standard method to demonstrate ejection fraction but it is invasive. Therefore determination of sensitivity and specificity of echocardiography versus angiography is a good guidance for physicians. A total number of 50 patients were enrolled in a prospective study. Two dimension and M-Mode echocardiography...

Simple and safe bedside method for serial measurement of left ventricular ejection fraction, cardiac output, and pulmonary blood volume.

A simple, safe method for bedside measurement of left ventricular function and pulmonary blood volume has been developed. A single scintillation probe positioned over the mid-left ventricle records the passage of bolus of radionuclide (ll3mIn) injected into the superior vena cava, from which the left ventricular ejection fraction can be determined after proper background correction. ll3mIn, hal...

The effect of eight weeks of moderate-intensity endurance training on myocardial capillary density, ejection fraction and left ventricular shortening fraction in male rats with myocardial infarction

Background and objective: Vascular obstruction and impaired blood flow and oxygen delivery cause a myocardial infarction and limit a personchr('39')s function. Therefore, finding a way to create new arteries and replace blocked arteries has always been of interest to researchers, including exercise physiologists. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the effect of eight weeks of moder...

Basic concepts in the determination of vascular volumes by indicator-dilution methods.

• The Ralculation of central (thoracic, pulmonary) blood volume from indicator-dilution data was introduced by Stewart' and developed and applied mainly by Hamilton and his group. The so-called classical Stewart-Hamilton method was based on the premise that the product of flow rate and mean transit time defined the volume of the flow channels. Originally intuitive, this premise has recently been...
